SOMBRA

Sombra began as an immersive, fictional artist rollout, a conceptual campaign rooted in my own experiences to ensure the story felt authentic and emotionally grounded. The imagined debut album explored the emotional terrain leading up to a breakup, with visuals designed to mirror its central themes while remaining adaptable for a wide range of promotional touchpoints.

The thought

The cornerstone of the project was a key artwork intended to capture “the heavy-hearted feeling of hope after heartbreak.” Through a muted-yet-luminous palette, the piece offered a grounding visual for an otherwise abstract emotion. This became the creative springboard for all subsequent design and branding decisions.

Tracklist

I designed a series of lyric posters to serve as the centerpiece of the album’s record pamphlet. Each track received its own two-page spread: a dedicated icon to symbolize its theme, a placeholder for lyrics, and an opposing artist commentary. The icons doubled as a branding shorthand for future merch, media, and promotional rollouts.

Merch

Merch offered the chance to reimagine Sombra’s motifs in wearable form. The goal was to create pieces that felt both rooted in the album’s narrative and desirable as stand-alone fashion items—designed to resonate with fans beyond the music itself.

Media and Promotion

For the photographic language, I sought a balance between cohesion and variety. Playing on the meaning of “Sombra” (shadow), I kept the subject’s face partially obscured—practical given I served as my own model, but also conceptually relevant. Inspired by impressionism, I blended most of the frame into soft, painterly light, sharpening only select focal points to heighten drama and avoid generic portraiture.

These photographs, along with the graphic assets, were intended as a foundation for a broader style guide—one that could be extended across promotional materials, social media, and future campaign visuals.
